Bombardier locomotives - The industrial evolution
New concept
In march 1998, the Adtranz Railway Conference in Oslo present the launch of a new industrial strategy based on production platforms : Innovia - peoplemovers; Incentro - tram; Movia - subways; Itino - Regional propelled; Crusaris - intercity railcars; Blue Tiger - diesel locomotive and then Octeon - electric locomotives. About the electric locomotive concept, Octeon was a modular product platform covering all applications based on standard components, assemblies and interfaces. The most important factors to be taken into consideration are catenary voltage, track gauge, signalling and safety systems, driver’s cab installations, train couplings, track forces, catenary distortion etc. To these must be added specific service requirements (passenger, freight or high-speed passenger trains), as well as technical responses to topology operating conditions such as terrain, climate, dust etc. Adtranz’ approach to these challenges was to construct the desired locomotive from a basic unified locomotive concept by means of a portfolio of standard, proven components and assemblies. Special emphasis was placed on maintenance and life-cycle costs. Octeon definitely endorses the concept of dedicated plant and the main site of Adtranz is transferred from the ex-AEG plant at Hennigsdorf to the plant of Kassel.

1998 - The BR 145
The class 145 was intended for medium freight service, first for the DB Cargo, later Railion and DB Schenker. A total of 103 were built, 80 of them for the DB AG, 23 locomotives were purchased by various leasing companies to hire them to private railways companies :

If DB using the 145 designation for these machines, the letters C and L were used for CargoLok. On its side, Switzerland preferred to retain the own numbering of the swiss railway SBB/CFF, even this concerns here the private company MThB, today disappeared.
